The semifinals of the medium goal Gold Cup, the last stage of the 54th. International Polo Tournament, took place on Tuesday August 26, at Ayala Polo Club, in Sotogrande, Spain, and saw Muda IZ Polo and Electric Polo victorious over Brunei and John Smith, respectively.
In the first semifinal, Muda IZ Polo clashed against John Smith. Gabriel Aguirre’s team had a strong start, and claimed the two first chukkas. However, their contenders bounced back – they seized the reins from the third chukka onwards, delivering a great performance as well as enough confidence to play their best polo, which led them to the 15-12 win and the first spot for the final.
The second match was a thrilling contest. Electric Polo and Brunei played a fantastic contest, swapping the lead thoroghout the six chukkas of play; but seemed that things would go for Brunei, since they were three goals ahead by the start of the last chukka. Electric Polo were far from giving up – they managed to tie at 10-all and sent the game into an extra chukka. And that’s when the German-based organisation produced the winning goal that secured them 11-10 victory and the second place in the championship game.
It’s worth noting that both Muda IZ Polo and Electric Polo already have a tournament of the series under their belts – while Muda IZ Polo claimed the medium goal Bronze Cup, Electric Polo won the medium goal Silver Cup. Let’s see who will make it two!
MUDA IZ POLO AND ELECTRIC POLO ARE DUE TO PLAY THE FINAL OF THE MEDIUM GOAL GOLD CUP ON FRIDAY AUGUST 29 AT 6,30pm (SPAIN TIME), AND WILL BE STREAMED LIVE ON POLOLINE TV HERE.
