For the last four years, prior to the Argentine Open final, Palermo has hosted the final of the Women’s Open. This year’s final will see last year’s teams go head to head once again: title holders El Overo UAE Z7 will take on double champions La Dolfina Brava.

El Overo UAE Z7 – a team that boasted two 10-goaler in the lineup, Argentine Lia Salvo and Brit Hazel Jackson – dominated the first half. Their solid team play gave them to a crucial 5-1 advantage by the end of the third. They were able to widen the gap to 6-2 by half time, thanks to a determined Lia Salvo. La Dolfina Brava had a tough first half, and they were forced to do their best to change that situation in the remaining chukkas.

But El Overo UAE Z7 didn’t let them get their foot in the door. Determined to retain their title, the powerful team shone in both attack and defence. They were very well mounted, mostly thanks to Lucas Monteverde. The team saw four women come together beautifully on the field, with the advantage of having played several tournaments together over the years.

As a consequence, there’s little that La Dolfina Brava could do to stop El Overo UAE Z7. La Dolfina Brava were unable to score over three chukkas, until Fátima Balzano put the ball between the posts in the seventh chukka. But the damage was done – with only one chukka left to play, El Overo UAE Z7 had secured a commanding 9-3 lead.

Nothing could stop them. Following another goal by Fátima Balzano, Lia Salvo, the top scorer of the final (scoring seven goals), converted a 30-yard penalty and a field goal to seal the deal. El Overo UAE Z7 claimed an impressive 11-4 win to retain the title they won in 2019.
