The much anticipated Gold Cup, the culminating stage of the 54th. International Polo Tournament, kicked off at Ayala Polo Club, in Sotogrande, in the South of Spain. The contest will feature a total of nineteen teams split in three levels of play – high goal, medium goal and low goal, who will battle in search of the most coveted trophy of the season in Spain.

The kickoff of the tournament, on Monday August 18, saw high goal and medium goal games. The results are as follows:

• HIGH GOAL

Dos Lunas 16-13 MB Polo

Calatagan 13-12 Black Bears

• MEDIUM GOAL

Muda IZ 13-8 John Smight

Electric Polo 14-11 Santa Quiteria

Meanwhile, the low goal Gold Cup is expected to start on Tuesday August 19.

The finals are due on Friday August 29 (medium goal) and Saturday August 30 (high goal and low goal).
