Over the next few days, the eight teams that will advance to the quarter-finals of the St. Regis Cowdray Gold Cup will be determined as the three qualifying groups reach their conclusion. England’s premier polo tournament features nineteen teams competing at up to 22 goals of handicap.
So far, only three teams have secured their places in the quarter-finals regardless of any remaining results: Akasha, Black Bears, and Dubai. Meanwhile, La Hechicera remains unbeaten, but has not yet guaranteed qualification. If they fail to win their final group match, they will depend on other results to progress.
Here’s where things stand:
League A: Dubai has already booked its place in the quarter-finals. Ferne Park must defeat Ojo Caliente to secure qualification as well. Should the Mexican side, Ojo Caliente, come away with the win, Ojo Caliente, Ferne Park and Shoreline would be tied and it will be decided as per standard order of merit: Who beat who, and if they´re tied, goal difference between the tied teams
Group B/C: Black Bears and Akasha lead the standings and have already secured their places among the final eight. The remaining spot could result in a three-way tie involving Gaston, White Crane, and either Signet or Jehangiri. However, if Gaston defeats Valhalla, they will qualify regardless of the outcome of the other matches.
Group D/E: This is by far the most evenly matched section, with no team yet guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals. Several scenarios remain possible, ranging from a four-way tie at the top on six points—requiring a penalty shootout—to five teams finishing on four points and battling for the final two qualification spots. One thing is certain: if La Hechicera wins its final match, it will advance without depending on any other result.
