The Gauntlet of Polo continued with the final of the second leg of the series: the USPA Gold Cup. Scone came through to claim a 13-10 win over Tonkawa in the final on Sunday, Mach 28, at International Polo Club Palm Beach. The tournament saw nine teams up to 22 goals, compete.

A close contest was expected, as the contenders were two of the strongest organisations in the tournament. Scone, however, dominated the game from the first throw-in. They took a 3-1 lead by the end of the first chukka, and extended the gap in the next two periods, securing an 8-3 advantage by half time. The extraordinary combination of Scone’s three professionals – Adolfo Cambiaso, his son Poroto, and the young Peke Gonzalez – allowed the organisation to maintain their dominance over the next two chukkas.

At the start of the sixth, when Scone had taken a commanding 12-5 lead, Tonkawa pulled together to fight back. They were able to add five goals to their total, thanks to Sapo Caset (1), Lucas Escobar (3) and Fran Elizalde (1). But their efforts fell short, as Peke Gonzalez scored for Scone to seal the win and take the title.
