Even though Sunday featured the final of the CV Whitney Cup, it also marked the kickoff of the USPA Gold Cup, second leg of the Gauntlet of Polo, and as it happened with the CV Whitney Cup, the USPA Gold Cup also showcases 14 teams up to 22 goals in competition.

 

In the opening matchday, Patagones defeated Equuleus by 13 goals to 7. The action will resume on Monday. The finals of the USPA Gold Cup are scheduled for Sunday, March 22nd.

FORMAT OF PLAY:

Groups 1 and 2 will play within their bracket while Groups 3 and 4 will play cross bracket. Goups 1 and 2 first and second seeded will advance straight to the quarterfinals. Groups 3 and 4 will be ranked one through six, and the first through third ranked teams will also advance to the quarterfinals. The remaining quarterfinalist is the next best record of all remaining teams. Two-way ties will be broken by who beat whom. All others will be broken by a one-man shootout. Groups 1 and 2 winners and the first and second from Groups 3 & $ general table will be in separate quarterfinals. Quarterfinal pairings will be decided by draw.
