The Queen’s Cup, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world, continued at Guards Polo Club on Wednesday, August 12, with the last league games. The results mean that the quarter finals have now been set, while Thai Polo NW joined Park Place in semifinals.
Park Place Vaara (who received one goal on handicap) took a close 11-10 win over Les Lions/Great Oaks, in a match that really took off in the third chukka. After two chukkas with zero goals, both teams scored a total of 13 goals in the third, giving Park Place Vaara a narrow 7-6 advantage.
Park Place Vaara pushed hard and retained the lead until the end. Despite the loss, Les Lions/Great Oaks qualified for the quarter finals, where they are set to meet Next Generation in another much expected clash between the Cambiasos and the Castagnolas.
Title holders, Scone, also earned a place in the quarter finals, after defeating Monterosso Vikings 10-9. After three consecutive ties, Scone gained the advantage as of the fourth chukka, and managed to hold their ground until the end of the match. Scone’s Nicolás Pieres scored eight goals for his team, and once again, Ignacio Toccalino replaced Sebastián Merlos in the Monterosso Vikings line-up.
