The 66th. Queen’s Cup is set to commence on Tuesday May 19, at Guards Polo Club, set in Windsor Great Park, England. As usual, the tournament, one of the most remarkable polo competitions in England and the international polo calendar, as well, will reunite the most renowned names in the sport. The Queen’s Cup will see nineteen teams up to 22 goals, compete.

 

With regards to the teams, current title holders Park Place will be aiming to retain the title they won last year. Also, the tournament will see the two recent champions of the first 22-goal contests. Cibao La Pampa Murus Sanctus (Prince of Wales Trophy) and Balanz Capital La Hechicera (Trippetts Challenge). The latter has hired Jeta Castagnola, who swapped organisations after playing for Dubai for a long time; his brother, Bartolomé Jr. remains with the Albwardy family’s team. The Cambiasos, father and son, are split in two different foursomes – Jindal Steel La Dolfina will feature Adolfo, and his son, Poroto, will play with La Dolfina Marqués de Riscal. Same for the three Pieres brothers, Gonzalito, Facundo and Nicolás, who will be participating in Jehangiri, Ferne Park and Kazak, respectively.

 

 

The order of play of the opening day of The Queen’s Cup, on Tuesday May 19, is as follows: 

11,30am: La Dolfina Marqués de Riscal vs. White Crane

2pm: Aureus vs. Signet Segavas

4,30pm: Gaston vs. Jehangiri

 

The Queen’s Cup was established in 1960, in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on September 8 2022. Her Majesty was not only the longest serving monarch of Great Britain (February 1952-September 2022), but also the second longest in history, behind His Majesty Louis XIV, known as Le Roi Soleil (The Sun King), who ruled France during 72 years (1643 to 1715). Queen Elizabeth II was suceeded by her son, His Majesty King Charles III, who is also the current President of Guards Polo Club, a position he inherited from his father, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who founded the club on January 25 1955 and remained as the President until his passing, on April 9, 2021.

 

THE FINAL OF THE QUEEN’S CUP WILL BE PLAYED ON SUNDAY JUNE 14.
