Las Brisas claimed a narrow 10-9 win over Concord Equity Group and ran out the champions of the Joe Barry Memorial Cup, following the final that took place on Sunday January 25, at the National Polo Center (NPC), set in Wellington, Florida, United States. The Joe Barry Memorial Cup, that serves as the first leg of the four qualifying tournaments of the NPC 16-Goal Championship – Joe Barry Memorial Cup, Ylvisaker Cup, Iglehart Cup and Outback Cup, saw six teams up to 17 goals, in participation.
It’s worth to remember that the NPC 16-Goal Championship final will take place on Sunday April 12, at the National Polo Center.
Las Brisas dominated the contest since the first chukka, but in the last chukka, Concord Equity Group managed to make a comeback, but the damage has been already, and in the end Las Brisas were victorious.
The Joe Barry Memorial Cup, that was played at Port Mayaca Polo Club and the NPC through January 10-25, was established in 2005, as a tribute to Joe Barry, who passed away in 2002. Barry has been inducted in the Polo Hall of Fame, in 1999, and his achievements includes six US Open, three USPA Gold Cup, and one Coronation Cup, in England, in 1971.
