Ayala were crowned champions of the High Goal Gluf by Bionesta Bronze Cup, following a remarkable 13-8 win victory over Dos Lunas IQ. The first high goal championship match of the 55th. ATL International Polo Tournament, took place on Saturday August 1, on Los Pinos Ground 3, at Ayala Polo Club, in Sotogrande, Spain.
The match had a very even and intense start, but Dos Lunas IQ slightly ahead thoroghout most of the first half, led by a great performance delivered by Antonio Heguy, who contained Camilo Castagnola. However, Jeta managed to help Ayala to stay in the game; the Argentinian 10-goaler became Ayala’s crucial piece, taking Ayala forward, although Pascual Sainz de Vicuña’s foursome proved to be in top form reaching a 6-5 lead by half time.
But the story would change in the fourth chukka – a determined Ayala seized the reins to produce a wonderful performance; as a result of an accurate attack and remarkable team play, Ayala outscored Dos Lunas IQ 4-0, that secured them a 9-6 advantage. Tough enough for Dos Lunas IQ, who now had to trail from behind, while Ayala went further. By the start of the last chukka the deal was almost said and done, with 11-7 up. Two more goals from Ayala in the last chukka, and the cup went to Iñigo Zobel & Co.
It’s worth noticing that Ayala were victorious on their comeback to high goal in Sotogrande, after five years of absence. Their last win dates from 2021, when they claimed the Silver Cup; while for Dos Lunas IQ, the lost saw them on the verge of a high goal title once again – this has been their second consecutive high goal final, after reaching the Gold Cup decisive match in 2025.
