Monday July 25 will mark the start of the 51° Torneo Internacional de Polo in Sotogrande. Three Cups will be at stake: Copa de Bronce Volvo, Copa de Plata Terralpa and Copa de Oro Globant. Twentyone teams split into three categories will be in participation: High Goal (18-20), Medium Goal (12-14) and Low Goal, the latest raised up to 6-8 goals after being historically of 4-6 goals. This decision was in order to keep the level that was being played during the last months.
Three games of the Medium Goal Copa de Bronce Volvo will take place on Monday, while its final will be on Saturday July 30. Regarding the high goal, Sainte Mesme and Dos Lunas, the defending champion, will face off on Friday July 29 for the title.
It is worth noting the presence of some of the best international players, such as the latest Argentine Open winners: brothers Barto and Jeta Castagnola and Polito Pieres. Guillermo Caset, champion of the 2021 high goal Copa de Oro, will come back again with Alejandro Aznar´s Marques de Riscal to try to retain the title. Alejandro Muzzio, Juan Ruiz Guiñazú, Joaquín Pittaluga and Santiago Cernadas will also have their chance to shine. Top european players such as Pascual Sáinz de Vicuña, Robert Strom, Pelayo Berazadi and Matt Perry, latest British Open runner up, are also confirmed at the spanish spot.
Polo in Sotogrande celebrates 51 years of history; since that very first time where Rancho Portales (M. Olazábal, A. Herrera, P. Domecq Urquijo and N. Gómez) lifted the first trophy, up to this unforgettable tournament, a dream born 51 years ago through Enrique Zobel and Ramon Mora Figueroa.
Action will take place at Ayala Polo Club main fields and at Los Pinos grounds.
