The 50th Anniversary Gold Cup continued on Wednesday and Thursday, with a total of five matches – two high goal games and three medium goal games. John Smith Ayala, Hodro, Ayala, BP Polo and Cibao La Pampa secured victories. The 50th Anniversary Gold Cup marks the third stage of the 50th Anniversary Torneo Internacional de Polo by La Reserva Club de Sotogrande.
In Thursday’s high goal, BP Polo faced Dos Lunas La Hacienda. Both teams had gone head to head in the Silver Cup at Dos Lunas, and Pascual Sainz de Vicuña’s team emerged victorious. But the second match up told a different story. Both teams fought hard, but in the end the Beh family managed to claim a 10-9 win. Poroto Cambiaso scored seven of the teams goals.
Cibao La Pampa took on Nairobi on Thursday, as well. The former were able to take a 9-7 victory – their second in the Gold Cup. The win means that Cibao La Pampa are on the right path to qualify for the semifinals.
The 50th Anniversary Gold Cup continues on Friday, August 20, with two high goal games at Santa María Polo Club.
Sotogrande’s 50th Anniversary tournament is being played at Ayala Polo Club, Santa María Polo Club, and Dos Lunas Polo & Dressage. The tournament sees twelve teams, split into two categories, compete. The high goal is for 18-20 goal teams, while the medium goal is for 12-14 goal teams.
