Cibao La Pampa, Nairobi and John Smith claimed debut victories in the opening day of the Terralpa Silver Cup, the second stage of the 50th Anniversary Torneo Internacional de Polo by La Reserva Club de Sotogrande. The tournament sees twelve teams, split into two categories, compete. The high goal is for 18-20 goal teams, while the medium goal is for 12-14 goal teams.

In the first match, played at Ayala Polo Club, Cibao La Pampa beat Santa Quiteria, recent winners of the Volvo Bronze Cup, by 15 goals to 9. La Pampa saw Juan Pepa, who was unable to play the Bronze Cup, make a comeback to the team.

Later in the afternon, at Dos Lunas, Nairobi took a narrow 12-11 win in extra chukka, with a golden goal by Hernán Pieres. Finally, John Smith took a 12-8 win over Hodro Polo. John Smith saw Alejandro Muzzio making his debut in Sotogrande season. 

The Terralpa Silver Cup continues on Tuesday, August 3, with two high goal games, at Ayala Polo Club.  

Sotogrande’s 50th anniversary tournament will be played at Ayala Polo Club, Santa María Polo Club, and Dos Lunas Polo & Dressage.
