The Dubai Gold Cup Series, apex of the polo world in Asia and the Middle East, is set to come to an end on Friday, March 6, at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club with the championship match of the prestigious Standard Chartered Gold Cup. UAE and AM/UAE will go head to head for the coveted trophy in what it is expected to be a thrilling game.

For the first time in the history of the series, a final will see the clash between two line-ups commanded by women, both of whom are royalty. On one side, Sheikha Maitha lead UAE, one of the most powerful organisations in the world. She counts with the backing of Lucas Monteverde, the man behind the success of this team. UAE are current title holders. So far this season they qualified for the final of the Silver Cup. Now, their aim is to retain the Gold Cup. In order to achieve her goals, Sheikha Maitha has recruited a powerful trio of professional players: Tomás Beresford and the Panelo brothers, Tomás and Benjamín.

UAE will take on the biggest surprise of the season, Sheikha Alya’s AM/UAE. This is the first time this team has competed in the series, and they have been spectacular throughout. They have overcome some important organisations. The clearest example of this was the impressive comeback they made against Ghantoot in the semifinal . Like her cousin Maitha, Sheikha Alya is also supported by three strong professionals: Santiago Cernadas, Jacinto Crotto, and Nacho Acuña.

Prior to the Gold Cup final, Habtoor and Abu Dhabi will play for the Bentley Cup, at 2pm. Off the field, there will be much available for spectators to enjoy at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club, from fashion and cheerleading show to brunches. There will also be a special ares for kids, and a sector for picnics.

UAE and AM/UAE will battle for the coveted Standard Chartered Gold Cup at 4pm. Don’t miss it!
