The second day of league matches for the Queen’s Cup took place on Wednesday May 17, and saw wins for Monterosso and King Power against Marqués de Riscal and Twelve Oaks, respectively. The Queen’s Cup, Guards Polo Club’s premier tournament, sees fifteen teams up to 22 goals, competing for the coveted trophy.

Monterosso – with Poroto Cambiaso subbing in for Pelón Stirling, and Twelve Oaks, the recent winners of the Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy and newcomers to the British high goal, opened fire. Alessandro Bazzoni’s, who received one goal on handicap, got off to a great start. They claimed a commanding 4-0 in the first chukka and widened their advantage to four goals by half time. Despite Twelve Oaks’ powerful duo composed by Joaquin Pittaluga and Magoo Laprida who combined a total of ten goals between them, Monterosso retained the lead, until they reached an impressive 14-11 win.

In the follow-up, King Power defeated Marqués de Riscal by a 13-11 score. The match was very similar to the previous one, with King Power earning significant advantage until half time. However, King Power seemed to slow down in the fourth chukka, and Marqués de Riscal managed to close the gap to one goal (6-7) through four penalty conversions by Sapo Caset. But King Power had another ideas in mind; in the following chukka, they produced enough goals to claim a four goal lead, in addition to a couple more in the last chukka, to secure the crucial first victory.
