The Queen’s Cup resumed on Saturday May 21 with two games. In the first contest, Twelve Oaks earned their first win against no less than King Power, while reigning champions, UAE, had a successful debut. Both teams emerged victorious with the same score, 12-10. The Queen’s Cup sees fifteen teams up to 22 goals, competing for the coveted trophy.

Twelve Oaks and King Power played a very hard fought match; after having tied in the first and second chukkas, Charles Wooldridge’s team claimed a narrow lead in the two following chukkas, as did King Power in the fifth. In the sixth and last chukka, Twelve Oaks outscored King Power 4-1 and took home the 12-10 win.

The follow-up saw current title holders, UAE, against Monterosso; the winner would take the Royal Horse Show Cup. Following two very narrow first chukkas, Monterosso took the lead by half time, but UAE quickly overcame the situation. A big blow came up in the fourth chukka, when they outscored Monterosso 6-0, to have the scoreboard reading a 10-7 lead for Sheikha Maitha and her boys. However, Monterosso was not that impressed: they made a comeback and closed the gap to just one goal (10-11) with only one chukka left to play. With the battle far from being finished, UAE managed to hold Monterosso back in the last chukka; this allowed them to produce two goals which were enough to win the game and make the first move in order to defend their title.
