P1 Cars El Bambú claimed a narrow 12-11 win over Jolly Roger and ran out the champions of the medium goal Copa de Plata Terralpa, the second leg of the 55th. Torneo Internacional de Polo ATL, following a thrilling final that took place on Friday August 14, at Ayala Polo Club, Los Pinos Ground, in Sotogrande Spain. This is the first title for Bella Teiltenbaum’s lineup, in their debut season in Sotogrande.
After a 2-all tie in the first chukka, P1 Cars El Bambú seized the reins quickly; they outscored Jolly Roger 4-1 in the third chukka to earn a 9-4 lead by half time, led by an outstanding performance delivered by Carlos María Ulloa, the team’s flagship man.
However, Jolly Roger never gave up; despite P1 Cars El Bambú retained the lead, Jolly Roger managed to reduce the gap to two goals (8-10) with only one chukka remaining. A nailbiting last chukka would follow, with Manuel Plaza and Rosendo Torreguitar as Jolly Roger’s crucial men. With just a handful of minutes to go in regulation time, the contest was tied 10-10.
But P1 Cars El Bambú re-took the lead, through two decisive goals courtesy of Carlos María Ulloa. Jolly Roger managed to score one more, but the clock was running fast. At the end of the day, luck was on Bella and her boys, who were victorious 12-11 and claimed their first ever title in Sotogrande.
