Almasanta claimed a 9-7 win over 1896 Polo, and won the Open de España Laguna, in a remarkable final on Los Pinos Ground 3, set at Ayala Polo Club, in Sotogrande, Spain, on Sunday June 28. In the meantime, Ground 2 saw the decisive match of the Copa Kai, between Delta Defence and Legacy, a very intense clash, that was decided on extra chukka – a goal by Martín Di Paola, secured Delta Defence the 9-8 victory.

 

The Copa Mar de Sazzón went to Amigos Dusseldorf, who were victorious over Magual Okip on Saturday June 27. 

 

With regards to the final of the Open de España, Almasanta took a quick 3-1 lead in the first chukka, until 1892 Polo outscored their contenders 2-0 in the second to tie at 3-all. A new tie (6-6) would come in the third. It was hard for Almasanta to hold back 1892 Polo, but they remained on their tail. Almasanta’s Santiago Cernadas was the squad’s leading man, producing crucial goals and the man who was there to hold 1892 Polo’s pressure.

 

It was in the fourth chukka when Almasanta delivered their best performance – solid in defense and attack, Almasanta managed to outscore 1892 Polo 2-1, to earn the 9-7 win and the title.
