In a very hard fought contest Legacy beat Adrenalina La Esperanza by a tight 9-8, and ran out the champions of the Copa Joseph McMicking, one of the most renowned tournaments of the season at Ayala Polo Club, located in Sotogrande, in the South of Spain, for teams up to 8 goals. The final took place on Sunday June 14.

Although Adrenalina had a better start, earning a 3-1 lead in the first chukka, Legacy quickly leveled the scores on the second, and claimed the lead in the third. Based on a solid team play and accurate attack, the Legacy lineup was able to fight against a firece contender in a very hard fought last chukka; at the end onf the day, luck was on Legacy’s side, who took the win and the title, and added a significant achievement to their own history, which means a remarkable growth within the international polo calendar.

The Copa Joseph McMicking is a remarkable tribute to Joseph Rafael McMicking, a Philippine-American businessman, who founded Sotogrande with his wife, Mercedes Zobel de Ayala, in 1964. The first polo field was built a year later, starting what would become one of the most coveted destinations of the sport on an international level. McMicking contributed a great deal to the development and growth of polo in Sotogrande, and the tournament celebrates his legacy.
