La Ensenada RS Murus Sanctus (received 2.5 goals on handicap) earned a tight 16.5-16 win over La Irenita Grand Champions to capture the Subsidiary Sarmiento Cup, the subsidiary of the 82nd Tortugas Open. The subsidiary final took place on Friday, October 7, at Tortugas Country Club, the day before the much anticipated final of the Tortugas Open between La Natividad and title holders Ellerstina.
It is worth noting that this is the third Sarmiento Cup victory for La Ensenada, although this year they are playing under a different name due to their partnership between RS Murus Sanctus. La Ensenada previously won the Sarmiento Cup in 2019 and 2020, defeating La Albertina and La Natividad, respectively.
La Ensenada RS Murus Sanctus and La Irenita Grand Champions played a very hard fought match. Pablo Mac Donough’s lineup got off to a better start. Juan Britos gave a remarkable performance, becoming the team’s top scorer with nine goals. While La Irenita remained in the lead under the command of their flagship man, Guillermo Caset (who also scored nine goals), the goal difference was always very narrow. La Ensenada RS Murus Sanctus bounced back and seized the reins in the last two chukkas, to claim a tight win by half a goal.
