Dubai claimed a 13-11 win over Monterosso in the first match of the  Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy, hosted by the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club. 

The opening match, which marked the start of the 22-goal season in England, took place on Dubai’s ground 1. The local team took the first two chukkas by storm, earning a 5-1 and 6-3 lead in the first and second chukka, respectively. However, Monterosso was able to get back in the game in the three following chukkas. They narrowed the gap down to just one goal (7-8) after half time, and halfway into the fifth chukka, they took a narrow lead (11-10).

But Rashid Albwardy’s lineup had other ideas in mind – in the last seconds of the fifth chukka, they tied the game 11-all, and finally scored two goals in the last chukka to secure a crucial 13-11 debut victory.

The 2022 edition of the Justerini & Brook Prince of Wales Trophy sees ten teams, up to 22 goals, compete for the title.
