It was not easy at all for Gabriel Aguirre’s team – from a tough start, they made an impressive comeback remarkably to win 11-8 over P1 Cars Wl Bambú, and clinched the Medium Goal Bronze Cup, the first title of the 55th. International Polo Tournament ATL, in the final played at Ayala Polo Club, in Sotogrande, on Friday July 31.
It’s worth noticing that both lineups reached the decisive match undefeated. The opening contest of the 55th. International Tournament ATL saw five teams up to 12 goals, partake.
P1 Cars El Bambú had a better start. Following a scoreless first chukka, P1 Cars El Bambú produced four consecutive goals to earn a 4-0 lead. By half time they were 5-3 up and in the fourth chukka they were 7-4 ahead. However, things would change in the fifth chukka.
That was when John Smith bounced back; led by their flagship man and top scorer, Alejandro Muzzio, they outscored their contenders 4-0 and closed the gap to just one goal (8-7). And they left the deal said and done in the last chukka through an impressive attack, that led them to a remarkable 11-8 victory and the first title of the series. By the way, John Smith are no strangers to the Medium Goal Bronze Cup – they were the runner up in 2025, but they lost against IZ Polo. Now, they had their rematch through an outstanding performance, that came in the right time.
The 55th. International Polo Tournament will resume with the Silver Cup (August 3-15) and the icing of the cake, the coveted Gold Cup (August 17-29).
