The Texas Women’s Open is underway at Houston Polo Club, with four teams, up to 20 goals (ladies handicap), in competition. The tournament kicked off on Tuesday and comes to an end on Sunday with the final between Iconica and PoloGear Coffee Company. Both teams remain unbeaten in the competition so far, with two wins a piece.
In the first semifinal, played on Thursday, Polo Gear Coffee Company defeated BTA by 6 goals to 5. BTA jumped to the lead in the first chukker with goals from Izzy Parsons and KC Krueger. However, in the second chukker Polo Gear Coffee’s Tiffany Busch found her stride, picking up the trash and tying the game to go into halftime 3 to 3. BTA held Polo Gear Coffee scoreless in the third, while KC Krueger converted an open goal penalty to claim the lead by one. In the fourth and final chukker, Dawn Jones tied the game 4-all, but BTA’s KC Krueger was able to convert another open goal penalty to regain the lead. But in the last minute of the game BTA fouled and Polo Gear Coffee’s Tiffany Busch took advantage of the mistake converting on the open goal penalty securing her team’s spot in the finals on Sunday.
In the second game of the day, Lockton jumped out with a 2 to 1 lead with 2 goals from Lockton team captain Erica Gandomcar-Sachs who showed great leadership and patience throughout the game. In chukkers two and three, goals from Iconica teammates Madi Outhier, Maureen Brennan, and Hope Arellano pulled their team ahead 4 to 2 going in the fourth and final chukker. Lockton’s Tiamo Hudspeth was able to bring her team with 1 goal in the fourth chukker, but Brennan solidified Iconica’s win with the last goal from the field, taking the win 5 to 3 over Lockton.
