Following the games played on Saturday August 21, the Hublot Polo Gold Cup Gstaad has the final set – Albinati Aeronautics and Kielder Agro Group will go head-to-head for one of the most traditional tournaments of the polo season in Europe, hosted by the splendid Polo Club Gstaad, located within the stunning sorroundings of the Swiss Alps. The contest sees four teams up to 14 goals, compete.
Albinati Aeronautics and Hublot opened fire, in a match that saw a 3-all by the end of the first chukka. Title holders, Hublot, led by a brilliant Gonzalito Pieres, who produced seven goals, managed to bounce back to claim a 6-4 lead. However, Albinati Aeronautics made a comeback in the third and penultimate chukka, to take a 9-7 advantage. But, nothing was said and done yet – in a very intense last chukka, Hublot displayed their best polo and tied 10-10. But within the last minutes in regulation time, Albinati Aeronautics were awarded with a 60-yards penalty, that was successfully converted by Facundo Retamar, who secured the 11-10 win for Albinati Aeronautics and the first ticket to the final.
Up next, Kielder Agro Group and Gstaad Palace played a dramatic game that ended with the former victorious 6-5 in extra chukka. Gstaad Palace had a better start, leading the first two chukkas (2-1 and 3-2), until Kielder Agro took a 5-4 lead in the third. Like in the previous contest, a hard fought last chukka followed – Gstaad Palace were awarded a 60-yards penalty converted by by Santiago Loza, that sent the match into overtime. Although Gstaad Palace maintained their hopes, luck was on Kielder Agro Group’s in that extra chukka – the winning goal came from Manuel Fernández Llorente’s mallet, through a 30-yards penalty conversion.
