Sainte Mesme won the High Goal Volvo Bronze Cup following a very attractive contest played on Los Pinos ground three, claiming  a narrow 11-10 win over Dos Lunas. The victory came in the final minute of the match thanks to a goal scored by Santiago Tanoira. The lineup, composed of Robert Strom, Santiago Tanoira, Juan “Tito” Ruiz Guiñazú, and Pelayo Berazadi became the first high goal winners of the 51st International Polo Tournament in Sotogrande.

Sainte Mesme and Dos Lunas played a remarkable, open match, which saw just a handful of fouls. The first half belonged to Sainte Mesme, who reached a commanding 8-3 lead by half time. However, things would change from the fourth chukka onwards, when Dos Lunas outscored Sainte Mesme by 3 goals to 1, and managed to tie the game at 9-all in the fifth. A hard fought last chukka would follow; Sainte Mesme re-claimed the lead, following a fantastic run by Robert Strom, but Dos Lunas replied quickly, thanks to Joaquín Pittaluga, who scored to tie the game once again. At the end of the day, Santiago Tanoira sent the ball through the goalposts to secure the title for Sainte Mesme.

The day’s action started on Los Pinos ground 4, when Cotton House defeated Cibao La Pampa by 10 goals to 5 to win the Low Goal Volvo Bronze Cup. Meanwhile, Ayala and Jolly Roger were victorious in a penalty shootout, securing a place in the Medium Goal Volvo Bronze Cup final, due to be played on Saturday, at Ayala Polo Club.
