HH President of the UAE Cup: Ghantoot reigns victorious

Ghantoot ran out the champions of the HH President of the UAE Polo Cup following a 9-7 win over Habtoor on Sunday, March 28, at Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The tournament – which saw four teams, up to 18 goals, compete – is the club’s most prestigious competition. 

 

Habtoor got off to a strong start, taking an early lead, but Ghantoot quickly closed the gap and showed why they were the favourites for the title. Mohammed Al Habtoor’s team secured a narrow 5-4 advantage by half time, but the fourth chukka belonged to the locals, who outscored Habtoor 4-1 to claim the title. 

 

The victory meant that Ghantoot finished the 18-goal season in UAE undefeated, having won every game of both the IFZA Gold Cup and the HH President of UAE Polo Cup. A championship team with powerful players, the organisation was strong both on and off the field. 

 

Prior to the main final, Abu Dhabi defeated YAS International 9-5 to claim the Subsidiary Trophy.
