The Gold Cup continued on Sunday, February 20, as UAE Polo defeated Dubai Wolves by CAFU by 13 goals to 9 to qualify for the tournament semis at Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The second game saw Abu Dhabi narrowly defeat AM Polo by 6 goals to 5.

The Gold Cup forms part of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series, the most prestigious polo event in Asia and the Middle East, held under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

The tournament sees eight teams, up to 18 goals, compete. The finals are set to be played on Saturday, March 5.

THE GOLD CUP IS STREAMED LIVE ON POLOLINE TV.

After a close start, UAE Polo took control of the game in the second, by outscoring Wolves 3-0 to take an impressive 6-2 lead that extended to 8-5 by half time. In the following chukka, UAE Polo overwhelmed Wolves scoring five unanswered goals. As a consequence, Sheikha Maitha and her boys went into the last chukka with a commanding 13-5 advantage. This allowed them to ease up in the last chukka. Wolves were able to come back and score four goals, but the damage was already done. UAE Polo took the 13-9 win and secured a place in the semifinals.

The next match between Abu Dhabi and AM Polo was a completely different affair – a very hard fought match. After a scoreless first chukka, AM Polo took the lead in the second thanks to goals by the Urquiza brothers. Jero del Carrill replied quickly in the next chukka, giving Abu Dhabi a 4-3 lead. Faris Al Yabhouni’s team retained their narrow advantage in the fourth, and halfway into the last chukka they earned a two goal lead. Pablo Urquiza scored for AM Polo to narrow the gap, but his efforts didn’t pay off, and Abu Dhabi claimed the tight 6-5 win.
