Four 15-goal teams are partaking in the Eduardo Moore Tournament (July 1-11) at the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club.

The tournament is a tribute to Eduardo”Gordo” Moore, one of the most remarkable Argentine players of all times – the heart and soul of his team, Nueva Escocia. The way he played polo was revolutionary for his time – throughout the 1960s and the early 1980s. His skills both as a rider and in his handling of the stick and ball were exceptional.

Moore remained a 10-goaler in England for several years, due to his impressive career on British soil. Among others, he won the Gold Cup with Jersey Lillies (1964, 1965), Stowell Park (1974, 1976, 1978) and Foxcote (1977); the Coronation Cup (1975, 1976, 1977);  and the Royal Windsor Cup. He also played in France, where he claimed the Coupe d’Or twice – first in 1968 with Cirencester Park and then in 1969 with Sainte Mesme.

He reached 9 goals in Argentina, where he won the Copa Cámara de Diputados, as well as several Metropolitan Championships. He also established one of the first polo schools at Nueva Escocia, and was a pioneer when it came to exporting polo horses on a large scale. In 1986, Moore took his own life. The polo community around the world was deeply affected by his death.

Moore treated and respected everyone he met equally, no matter their background, and he is remembered for being a very kind and generous man, always available to help young players and anyone looking to improve their polo.

The final of the Eduardo Moore Tournament will be STREAMED LIVE on PoloLine TV.
