Dubai beat Green Gates 7.5-4 and ran out the champions of the Royal Windsor Cup, the medium goal competition hosted by Guards Polo Club, set in Windsor Great Park, England. The Royal Windsor Cup is the club’s oldest tournament, having being played for the first time in 1955, the year the club was founded by His Late Royal Highness Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh. The contest saw twenty teams up to 15 goals, partake.
The final took place on Sunday June 20, and Tariqu Albwardy’s squad received half a goal on handicap. It was Dubai, a foursome that won this 15-goal competition several times, the dominant force of the match, led by the remarkable performance of the lethal duo made of Bartolomé Castagnola Jr. and Santos Merlos. On Green Gates’ side, it’s worth to mention the fantastic performance delivered by the young Jake Coventry. By half time, Dubai had a comfortable 4.5-2, but Green Gates managed to bounce back in the second half, to close the gap to 3-4.5. At the end of the day, luck was on Dubai’s side, who was victorious in the last chukka.
The Subsidiary Mountbatten Cup went to Jindal Steel/La Dolfina, who claimed a merciless 11-5 win over The Mirror.
As usual, the final day of the Royal Windsor Cup brings special attractions, such as the display of vintage carriages brought by the British Driving Society Summer Show, a tradition that has been repeated for more than 50 years. And the spectacular group, The Knights of Middle England, showcase their remarkable equestrian skills and colorful medieval jousting.
