Park Place and Scone both qualified for the final of the CV Whitney Cup, the first leg of The Gauntlet of Polo, after claiming semifinal wins on Wednesday, March 3, at International Polo Club Palm Beach. The tournament sees nine teams, up to 22 goals, compete.

In the first semifinal, played early in the morning, Coca Cola were overwhelmed by Park Place’s offence. The latter dominated the match and, by the end of the fourth chukka, they had secured a commanding 9-3 lead. While Coca Cola managed to close the gap in the two last chukkas, the damage was already done – Park Place took a 13-9 victory to qualify for the final.

Scone and La Indiana went head to head in the afternoon. The match was hard fought, but David Paradice’s foursome managed to stay in the lead, mostly from the third chukka onwards when Scone took wide advantages. Led by the talented Peke Gonzalez, who scored 7 goals in total, Scone outscored La Indiana 4-0 in the fifth, making it 13-6 in favour of David’s boys. The difference meant that Scone were able to keep their cool, despite not scoring in the last. They earned a 13-8 victory and the second spot in Sunday’s final.

Park Place and Scone will battle it out for the title on Sunday, March 7, at 3pm.

The Gauntlet of Polo is streamed live on GLOBAL POLO.
