Park Place beat Scone 11-10 to claim the CV Whitney Cup, the first leg of The Gauntlet of Polo, on Sunday, March 7, at International Polo Club Palm Beach. The tournament saw nine teams, up to 22 goals, compete.

The match was decided in extra chukker, with a golden goal scored by 17-year-old Jack Whitman. The youngster was filling in for patron Andrey Borodin, who will step in to play the following tournament: the USPA Gold Cup. This victory gave Park Place their first major title in the US.

The final was hard fought, and the score was tied several times throughout the match. By half time, the score was 4-all. David Paradice’s team claimed the fourth chukka, while Park Place re-took the lead in the fifth. It was a rough sixth chukka, ending 10-all, sending the game into OT. In the seventh, Jack Whitman came through to seal the deal, putting the ball through the goalposts to give Park Place their first major US title.

The Gauntlet of Polo is streamed live on GLOBAL POLO.
