In a letter sent to club members, players, and followers last week, the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly announced their hopes to host an eventual polo season, Covid-19 pandemic and precautions taken by the French Government permitting. But one thing is for sure – there’s a lot of optimism in Europe regarding the current situation, which is positive for polo and the upcoming seasons.

In a letter signed by Arnaud de Chenevarin, the club’s President, the institution states: “Please trust that your health is also our first and foremost priority”. It goes on to make reference to a possible ease of the lockdown in France as of Monday, May 11; “the foreseeable evolution of the sanitary situation shall allow us to anticipate a possible resumption of our club activities, even just partially, for the weekend of May 16 and 17”.

It’s worth to noting that, as all the European clubs are currently doing, they make clear that the club will follow the Government’s advice on the issue.

Notable points from the letter include:

– “In order to get ready for this anticipated recovery date, we have asked our green keeper, Philip Carter and all his team to prepare all of our 8 grounds.”

-“Therefore, as soon as possible, we will organise practices on all of our grounds, with regard of the strictest barrier measures and of all of the necessary actions. All the pony lines on each ground will be in use to separate your grooms, mask wearing will be mandatory and all the grounds will have disinfectant at your disposal.”

-“Thanks to the new circular Verti-Drain system in which we have invested this year, we will obtain a very significant improvement of the ground drainage. This will allow us to play longer on the grass.”

-“All efforts that we put in, are to make sure that you can fully enjoy this very special season.”

-“Starting from now (April 22nd), all the grooms on the farm can take care of physical preparation and the conditioning of your horses, so that they are operational on the anticipated resumption date.”

-“The resumption will of course include the pony club as well. We will pay special attention to adapt their activities to ensure the safety of our children.”

The letter concludes:

“Please trust that the whole team of Chantilly Polo Club and its management are entirely mobilised with the greatest determination, in order to provide you with the best polo season possible under these extreme circumstances.”
