Los Dragones and Le Pommeray HM claimed respective Coupe d’Or victories on Thursday, August 19, at Deauville International Polo Club. The tournament has been played at the club since 1950, and is one of the most coveted trophies on the international calendar. This year’s tournament sees six teams, up to 16 goals, compete.

In the first match, Los Dragones took control of the play early on, dominating Barriere and securing a three goal advantage by the fifth and final chukka. Far from giving up, Barriere fought back, holding Los Dragones scoreless and converting three consecutive goals. But Sam Sztarkman & Co were not about to oet their advantage slip away. They regrouped to secure a 9-8 win.

Up next, Le Pommeray HM took their second win in the tournament after defeating Brittany Polo 9-8. This game was completely different from the first. Brittany Polo got off to a better start, taking a 3-1 lead by the end of the second chukka. In the third, Le Pommeray HM reinforced their attack, scoring three consecutive goals to take a 6-3 advantage. From that point onwards, both teams battled hard, and the match was tied 8-8 by the end of regulation time. The match went into extra time, and it was all to play for. That was when Juan Gris Zavaleta scored the winning goal to give Le Pommeray HM the win.

The final of the Coupe d’Or is scheduled for Sunday, August 29.
