UAE Polo and Park Place joined Dubai and Marqués de Riscal in the semifinals of the British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup, followings their victories against Vikings and Scone, respectively, on Sunday July 16. The two winners will fight for a spot in the final, due on Sunday July 23.

 

In the first contest, played on Lawns 1, UAE Polo demonstrated to be a serious contender for the title, after an impressive 13-4 win over Vikings. In the fourth chukka, they outscored their opponents 3-0, to widen their gap to five goals, and maintained their dominance thoroghout the remaining chukkas. Sheikha Maitha’s UAE Polo, who reached the semifinals of the Queen’s Cup, now aim to make a comeback in the British Open, after two years, when they lost against Thai Polo NP.

 

Up next, Park Place, with Matt Perry and James Harper back on thr saddle, played one of their best games of the season, and defeated Scone (with Tomás Panelo subbing in fot Adolfo Cambiaso) by a 11-8 score. It is worth to note Facundo Pieres’ remarkable performance; playing and his highest level, he led the current reigning champions to the semifinals of the British Open.

 

The final of the British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup is due on Sunday July 23.
