Amanara and Black Bears qualified for the championship match of the high goal Terralpa Silver Cup, after the semifinals that took place at Ayala Polo Club, in Sotogrande, Spain, on Wednesday August 13.
Nicky Sen’s Amanara and Prince Mateen’s MB Polo clashed in the first contest, with the former earning a five goal advantage in the first half. But the Brunei-based team bounced back and managed to come closer in the score. In the fourth chukka, Marty Romuáldez had to sub in for Nicky Sen, and by the sixth and last chukka, Amanara made an impressive comeback, to claim a 14-11 win and earn the first ticket to the final. It’s worth to note that Amanara were the runner up of the high goal Bronze Cup, the first leg of the current 54th. International Polo Tournament.
Black Bears and La Dolfina Marqués de Riscal went head-to-head in the second semifinal, which was a very hard fough contest and featured just a handful of goals. Indeed, it was anyone’s game, so tight that it only ended when Rufino Bensadon produced the winning goal with less than two minutes left in regulation time, to secure Black Bears a narrow 8-7 victory.
Therefore, Amanara and Black Bears will battle for the high goal Terralpa Silver Cup on Saturday August 16 at 6,30pm.
- MEDIUM GOAL
In the meantime, the medium goal Terralpa Silver Cup has the final already set. Electric Polo and Brunei, who defeated Muda IZ Polo 15-11, and Santa Quiteria Mondragon 10-7, respectively, will clash for the title on Friday August 15, at 7pm.
- LOW GOAL
Last but not least, Calatagan and La Capilla will play the decisive game of the low goal Silver Cup, on Saturday August 16, at 5pm.
All games are due on Spanish times.
