The Argentine Association of Polo have shared the current 2019 ranking, where only the results from the 126°Argentine Open are in consideration. The winner of a match takes 150 points, while 150 extra points are awarded to both finalists. 

As in 2017 and 2018, the top seven teams in the ranking will qualify directly for next year’s Triple Crown, while the eighth will fight for their spot in a playoff against the winner of the Cámara de Diputados Cup. This match is likely to be played on December 16, two days after the final of the Argentine Open. 

The teams placed 9th and 10th in the ranking will be eliminated from the competition, and will have to play the Qualification tournament in order to have a chance of entering the 127° Argentine Open.

As in 2019, both the Tortugas Open and the Hurlingham Open will see eight teams compete, while Palermo will be played with 10 teams.

Ranking so far:

1) La Dolfina – 300 points.

2) La Natividad – 300 points.

3) LD Polo Ranch – 300 points.

4) Las Monjitas – 300 points.

5) Ellerstina – 300 points.

6) La Irenita – 150 points.

7) La Ensenada – 150 points.

8) La Albertina – 0 points.

9) La Aguada – 0 points.

10) Cría Yatay – 0 points.

RULES: 2020 TRIPLE CROWN RANKING

In order to determine which teams will qualify for the 2020 Triple Crown, the following rules will be applied:

• The points won in the Argentine Open will be taken into account.
• The winner of each match will be awarded 150 points; 150 extra points will be awarded to the two teams that qualify for the final; and another 150 points will be awarded to the winner of the championship.
• The top seven teams in the Ranking of the Triple Crown (RTC) will qualify directly for the 2020 Triple Crown.
• The eighth team in the RTC will face the winner of the Cámara in a play off; the winner will qualify for the 2020 Argentine Open.

If there is a tie between two teams in the ranking, the order will be determined  according to the following list of priorities:

a) If these two teams played against each other in the Qualification tournament, or in the 126° Argentine Open, the winner of that match will be ranked ahead of the loser.

b) If the teams have not faced each other, the number of goals scored by each team in the 126° Argentine Open will be taken into consideration; the team that scored the highest number of goals will be ranked above the other team.  

c) If the teams are still tied, the difference between the number of goals scored and goals conceded in the 126° Argentine Open will be considered; the team with the greatest difference will be ranked above the other team.  

d) If the tie continues, a coin will be tossed in the presence of representatives of the clubs involved, the Argentine Association of Polo Players (AAJP), and the Argentine Association of Polo (AAP). 

In the case of a three way tie, the following will be taken into account:

a) The team with the biggest goal difference between the matches played in the 126° Argentine Open between the three teams involved will be ranked above the other two. 

b) If the three teams have not faced each other, the team that scored the highest number of goals in the 126° Argentine Open will be placed above the others.

c) If the tie continues, the difference between the number of goals scored and the number of goals conceded in the 126° Argentine Open will be considered; the team with the highest difference will be ranked above the other two. 

d) If the tie persists, a coin will be tossed in the presence of representatives of the clubs involved, the Argentine Association of Polo Players (AAJP), and the Argentine Association of Polo (AAP). 

PLAY OFF MATCH

1) The playoff between the winner of the Cámara de Diputados Cup and the team ranked eighth in the Argentine Open will be played once the Argentine Open concludes, taking into account the accepted resting time. 

2) The match will be 7 chukkas long, and will be played with a wooden ball at the polo grounds in Palermo. 

3) Horses used in the Cámara de Diputados Cup or in the Argentine Open by other teams will not be permitted. Both teams must present a finalised list of horses before the match. 

4) The teams must be made up of the same players and substitutes as those who competed in the Cámara de Diputados Cup and the Argentine Open. 

5) If a team fails to meet the requirements clarified in point 3, they will forfeit the match and may suffer further sanctioning.
