Ayala and Marqués de Riscal claimed victories in their respective semifinals to qualify for the final of the high goal 50th Anniversary Gold Cup, set to be played on Saturday, August 28. Both winners also took the Engel & Vöelkers Cup. The 50th Anniversary Gold Cup marks the third and final stage of the 50th Anniversary Torneo Internacional de Polo by La Reserva Club de Sotogrande.

In the first semifinal, played on ground 2 at Santa María Polo Club, Ayala beat BP Polo 10-8 to claim a spot in another final. Iñigo Zobel was back in the saddle for Ayala, scoring four goals and becoming the top scorer for his team. Next, Marqués de Riscal and BN Polo went head to head in what was a rematch of the Silver Cup semi. Marqués de Riscal got off to a stronger start, taking a commanding 5-0 lead in the first chukka. Alejandro Aznar’s team held the lead, despite BN Polo fighting back and getting within one goal. However, Marqués de Riscal held their ground to secured a 13-11 win and a place in the final.

The 50th Anniversary Gold Cup continues on Friday, August 27, with the medium goal finals at Santa María Polo Club.

Sotogrande’s 50th Anniversary tournament is being played at Ayala Polo Club, Santa María Polo Club, and Dos Lunas Polo & Dressage. The tournament sees twelve teams, split into two categories, compete. The high goal is for 18-20 goal teams, while the medium goal is for 12-14 goal teams.
