Berenberg narrowly defeated Porsche Zentren Hamburg by 4 goals to 3 to claim the 22nd Berenberg German Polo Masters on Sunday, August 1, at Polo Club Sylt, in Germany.

The tournament, sponsored by Berenberg, the oldest German private bank and the second oldest in the world, saw six teams, between 6-8 goals, compete. Many international players, such as Valentin Novillo Astrada, Tuki Ruiz Guiñazú, and the Laplacettes, as well as Germany’s Basti Schneberger and Brazil’s João Novaes, were battling for the title.

Fifth place went to Hotel Stadt Hamburg, who defeated Polo Sylt by 7 goals to 6. Lanserhof/Dunkelziffer came in third place after taking a tight 8.5-8 win over Konig Sylt/Knack den Krebs.

“A great result,” said Dr. Hans-Walter Peters, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Privatbank Berenberg, who was delighted with his team’s victory. “We are happy that our tournament could take place this year – even if only on a significantly reduced scale. Our guests enjoyed the afternoon very much, because a summer day on Sylt with polo is unique.”
Organizer Kiki Schneider added: “This year, for the first time in its history, we had to play the Berenberg German Polo Masters under very special conditions and without spectators. We owe the fact that this succeeded so excellently thanks to the support of all partners and sponsors, and their great trust.”
