Johor is getting ready to welcome one of the most remarkable events of the international calendar of polo -the Royal Johor Polo Club will host the first edition of the Johor Super Crown Tournament, that will see five teams up to 22 goals, partake, in lineups that will include some of the biggest names of the sport, such as Juan Martín Nero, Pablo Mac Donough, Gonzalo Pieres Jr., Pablo Pieres, Nachi du Plessis, Matías Mac Donough, Nic Roldán and Alejandro Novillo Astrada.
The tournament, that will run through September 1-6, promises to place high goal into a new scenario as well as secure Johor a position as one of the most significant international polo destination. In addition to first class polo, the Johor Super Crown Tournament has been established with the aim to combine excellence, tradition and global interest together, through a remarkable event that will mark a new era for the sport in Malaysia.
PoloLine spoke to Polito Pieres, Gonzalo Pieres Jr. and Pablo Mac Donough about the upcoming competition; the three of them agreed about the improvements made in the club in terms of facilities, and the encouragement provided by Malaysian Royal Family towards the event. Besides, Polito spoke about his relationship with them and he firmly stated he feels a part of them. His cousin, Gonzalito, said he is anxious to be back to Johor after so many years.
