The season in England has just finished, and polo is currently moving to the last destinations in Europe – Sotogrande, Switzerland, France, before landing on Argentina for the much anticipated Triple Crown, and the year’s peak, the championship match of the Argentine Open, at Palermo. In the meantime, and with July almost done, there were some significant movements within the World Polo Tour, in every category – professionals, amateurs and ladies.
PROFESSIONALS
Camilo “Jeta” Castagnola, one of the most outstanding players of the season in England, played with La Hechicera and was victorious on the Trippetts Challenge and the Queen’s Cup. As a result, he remains in the first place, firmly. He is followed by his brother, Bartolomé “Barto”, runner up of the St. Regis Cowdray Gold Cup, with Dubai, who moved from 4th. to 2nd. place. Lorenzo Chavanne, the man of the hour, still remains on the top 5, while Antonio Heguy, runner up of the St. Regis Cowdray Gold Cup, is close to step into the Top Ten – he advanced from the 13rd. spot to 11th.
A name worth to mention – Gonzalo Ferrari. He was perhaps the best player of the season, who had the difficult task to fill in for Pelon Stirling, in Gaston. And he succedeed remarkably, because he was one of Jean-Paul Luskic’s team crucial men; not only Gonzalo played several finals, but he reached the peak winning the St. Regis Cowdray Gold Cup. This achievement led him to raise from 28th. to 14th. in the WPT. The same happened with his team mates in Gaston, Beltran Laulhé (29th. to 17th.) and Cruz Heguy (37th. to 20th.).
AMATEURS
Curtis Pilot still remains in the first place among the amateurs. But the most significant changes are UAE’s HH Sheikha Maitha, who climbed to the podium (5th. to 3rd.); two remarkable raises follow her – Jean-Paul Luskic, Gaston’s patron and winner at Cowdray Park, who made a very impressive climb, from 23rd. place to 4th.; and Dubai’s Tariq Albwardy, runner up of the St. Regis Cowdray Gold Cup, who made it from 81st. to the Top Ten.
LADIES
Milly Hine, the recent winner of the British Open Ladies Championship, with Yaguara, leads the ladies ranking. Her team mate within the champions, Mia Cambiaso, comes next – she climbed from 3rd. to 2nd. Meanwhile, Nina Clarkin, raised to the Top Five from the 11th. place.
