The Silver Cup, the first tournament of the Dubai Gold Cup Series, continued on Saturday as Zedan claimed a debut win over Dubai Wolves, at Al Habtoor Polo and Resort. The competition sees six 18-goal teams vying for the title.
Santiago Laborde scored first for Zedan, but Wolves also managed to convert in the first, and the chukka finished 1-all. Zedan took the lead in the second chukka, while a talented Dubai Wolves foursome fought hard to thwart their opponents. The match was very quick paced and open, and with several good field goals.
Juan Gris Zavaleta scored once and Habtoor Al Habtoor did so twice to lead the comeback for Dubai Wolves, who managed to go into the last with a 6-5 advantage. But Zedan worked hard to regain the upper hand. Santiago Laborde, Zedan’s leading player, scored three unanswered goals to seal the deal. Dubai Wolves closed the gap by scoring once once again (7-8), but Zedan’s Juan Jauretche smashed their hopes of victory by scoring to secure the 9-7 win for his team.
The Silver Cup continues on Monday, January 27 with a match between Ghantoot and UAE, at 4pm.
