USPA Gold Cup: Full swing action at the National Polo Center

The USPA Gold Cup, the second stage of the prestigious The Gauntlet Of Polo, continued through Monday March 10 and Thursday March 12, at the National Polo Center (NPC), located in Wellington, Florida, United States. The tournament that preceeds the much awaited US Open, sees ten teams up to 22 goals, compete. Teams are split in two leagues.

 

At the moment, Pilot, The Dutta Corp – the recent winners of the CV Whitney Cup -, Park Place and La Dolfina Scone are still unbeaten; in the meantime, DUS and Clinova The Sandbox were unable to earn any victory.

The USPA Gold Cup will resume on the next weekend, with the following schedule:

  • Saturday March 14

12pm: 1,30pm: Park Place (3-0) vs. La Dolfina Scone (2-0)

  • Sunday March 15

11am: Clinova The Sandbox (0-3) vs. La Dolfina Tamera (1-1)

1.30pm: Pilot (2-0) vs. The Dutta Corp (2-0)

5pm: Clearwater (1-2) vs. BTA (1-1)

 

The USPA Gold Cup was established in 1974, and has been played at many different states and clubs, such as Oak Brook Polo Club, in Illinois, Milwaukee PC, in Winconsin, Greenwich Polo Club, in Greenwich, New Bridge Polo Club, among others, and was relocated in Florida, in 1979, at Palm Beach Polo and Country Club. The first winners of the contest were Milwaukee (Tom Hughes, Tommy Wayman, Joe Barry, Robert Uihlein III), following a thrilling final that ended in an extra chukka, with Wayman producing the winning goal. Some great teams took home the title more than once, including Valiente (2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018), Audi (2011, 2015), Crab Orchard (2007, 2010) and Scone (2021, 2023). White Birch holds the all-time record wins with 12 titles spanning three decades.

 

THE FINAL OF THE USPA GOLD CUP WILL BE PLAYED ON SUNDAY MARCH 29.
