Aureus claimed a 11-8 win over Calatagan por 11-8 and ran out the champions of the Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy, hosted by the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club, set in Winkfield, near Windsor, following the final that took place on Saturday May 17. The tournament that opens the 22-goal season in England, saw twelve teams, partake.
Aureus and Calatagan played a very close match, with both teams exchanging the leadership; however, the gap was no more further than one or two goals. By the time to play the sixth and last chukka, Aureus had a close 7-6 advantage over Calatagan, which meant that could be anyone’s contest. But a determined Aureus, with the two Panelo brothers, Tomás and Benjamin, produced four goals that drove them to the victory and one of the most significant trophies in England.

The Justerini & Brooks Prince of Wales Trophy is one of the most important tournaments in English polo. It’s been played since 1986, in the club established by the late Bryan Morrison, the renowned music mogul who has managed the careers of several rock icons, such as Pink Floyd, The Jam, The Bee Gees, The Police and George Michael, among others. The club was officially opened in 1985 by the then HRH The Prince of Wales, today His Majesty King Charles III, who also was named its first member.
