The fifth edition of the prestigious AlUla Desert Polo took plce in the  the magnificient AlUla, in Saudi Arabia on the desert arena ground, set amongst the extraordinary landscapes of the Al Fursan Equestrian Village, in close proximity to Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra. An extraordinary, one-of-a-kind event that has grown and improved remarkably thoroghout these last five years, and a perfect destination for some of the best players in the world.

 

The event saw six teams, in competition, in lineups that featured both male and female players, to compete during two full action days.

 

In the opening day, on Friday January 16, teams were challenged in a round robin, in order to search for those two who would play the final, DUE on Saturday January 17. AlUla, with Pelon Stirling and Defender, with Pablo MacDonough (current title holder), were the chosen ones.

 

The epic four-chukka final saw a high level of polo, and the spectators enjoyed a thrilling contest – AlUla managed to bounce back in the last minutes of play, but at the end of the day, luck was on Defender, who claimed the title following a 9-8 victory.
