The CV Whitney Cup, the first leg of the prestigious The Gauntlet of Polo, continued on Tuesday February 17 with three games, that saw DUS, Coca Cola and La Dolfina Scone victorious. The complete series – that also include the USPA Gold Cup and the US Open and has been established in 2019 – is played at the National Polo Center (NPC), set in Wellington, Florida, United States.
The CV Whitney Cup sees nine teams up to 22 goals, in participation. Teams are split in three leagues.
Newcomers, DUS, narrowly beat Clearwater 8-7; up next Coca Cola, runner up in 2025, recovered from their loss in their debut game against Pilot, and claimed a 18-13 win over BTA. Last but not least, La Dolfina Scone earned an impressive victory over Park Place by a 12-9 score.
Action for the CV Whitney Cup will be back on Friday February 20, as follows:

Originally known as the U.S. Handicap, the C.V. Whitney Cup was established in 1979, and first competed for on handicap in conjunction with the U.S. Open Polo Championship. In 1988, the tournament was renamed for C.V. (Cornelius Vanderbilt “Sonny”) Whitney, an avid polo player and three-time winner of the U.S. Open (1928, 1937, 1938) and son of 10-goal Hall of Famer Harry Payne Whitney. Inducted into the Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame in 2022, Whitney left a lasting mark in polo. Rising to a 6-goal handicap during his playing career that spanned the “golden era” of polo, Whitney was a formidable factor in all major USPA tournaments.
The Gauntlet of Polo will follow with the USPA Gold Cup and will come to an end on April 26, with the much anticipated championship match of the US Open.
