In a thirling match, Pilot defeated La Dolfina Scone 10-6, and won the USPA Gold Cup, following the final that was played on Sunday April 4 at the National Polo Center (NPC), set in Wellington, Florida, United States. The USPA Gold Cup, second leg of The Gauntlet Of Polo saw ten teams up to 22 goals, in competition. Teams were split in two leagues.
It’s worth to remember that this match should have been played on Sunday March 29, but had to be delayed due to heavy rainfalls.
The first half belonged to La Dolfina Scone, who dominated Pilot at least until the third chukka, when they stepped into half time 5-2 up. But after the break, a recharged Pilot overwhelmed La Dolfina Scone – they left them scoreless in the next two chukkas, with Pilot outscoring their contenders 6-0 to claim a 8-5 advantage by the end of the fifth chukka. A somewhat hopeless La Dolfina Scone foursome only managed to produce one goal in three chukkas, while a very determined Pilot took the game for themselves. At the end of the day, Curtis Pilot & Co – the only team up-to-date who won the complete The Gauntlet Of Polo in 2019 – outscored La Dolfina Scone 2-1 in the last chukka, to clinch an almost unexpected victory, and the second title of the current The Gauntlet Of Polo.

The USPA Gold Cup was established in 1974, and has been played at many different states and clubs, such as Oak Brook Polo Club, in Illinois, Milwaukee PC, in Winconsin, Greenwich Polo Club, in Greenwich, New Bridge Polo Club, among others, and was relocated in Florida, in 1979, at Palm Beach Polo and Country Club. The first winners of the contest were Milwaukee (Tom Hughes, Tommy Wayman, Joe Barry, Robert Uihlein III), following a thrilling final that ended in an extra chukka, with Wayman producing the winning goal. Some great teams took home the title more than once, including Valiente (2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018), Audi (2011, 2015), Crab Orchard (2007, 2010) and Scone (2021, 2023). White Birch holds the all-time record wins with 12 titles spanning three decades.
