La Dolfina Scone and The Dutta Corp qualified to the final of the CV Whitney Cup, following their wins against DUS and Pilot, respectively, in the semifinals that took place on Wednesday February 25 at the National Polo Center (NPC), located in Wellington, Florida, United States. The CV Whitney Cup is the first leg of the prestigious series or tournaments, The Gauntlet of Polo, which is completed by the USPA Gold Cup and the US OpeN. All of them are played at the NPC entirely.

The CV Whitney Cup sees nine teams up to 22 goals, in participation. Teams are split in three leagues.

In the first semifinal, the clash of the unbeaten, La Dolfina Scone had to work hard to beat DUS by an 8-6 score; the game saw ties until half time, but La Dolfina Scone managed to bounce back in the fourth chukka and sealed the final result in the fifth, as the sixth remained scoreless. Up next, The Dutta Corp swept Pilot to earn an impressive 16-9 victory.

LA DOLFINA SCONE AND PILOT WILL GO HEAD-TO-HEAD FOR THE CV WHITNEY CUP PN SUNDAY MARCH 1, AT THE NATIONAL POLO CENTER, AT 5pm (PALM BEACH TIME).

Originally known as the U.S. Handicap, the C.V. Whitney Cup was established in 1979, and first competed for on handicap in conjunction with the U.S. Open Polo Championship. In 1988, the tournament was renamed for C.V. (Cornelius Vanderbilt “Sonny”) Whitney, an avid polo player and three-time winner of the U.S. Open (1928, 1937, 1938) and son of 10-goal Hall of Famer Harry Payne Whitney. Inducted into the Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame in 2022, Whitney left a lasting mark in polo. Rising to a 6-goal handicap during his playing career that spanned the “golden era” of polo, Whitney was a formidable factor in all major USPA tournaments.

The Gauntlet of Polo will follow with the USPA Gold Cup and will come to an end on April 26, with the much anticipated championship match of the US Open.
