La Dolfina beat UAE Polo 9-4 and won the IX Argentine Women’s Open, in the final that took place at Palermo on Saturday December 6. This is their fifth title for the Cañuelas-based foursome, which means that La Dolfina is the team that claimed the Argentine Women’s Open more than anyone else. On the other side, UAE, who were the title holders, aimed to a hat trick, as they won the two last editions (2023 and 2024).
La Dolfina’s Mia Cambiaso opened the scores with a great goal in the first chukka, but UAE Polo replied quickly through Hazel Jackson’s mallet. Following a 1-all in the first chukka, Hazel produced another goal that secured UAE a 2-1 lead in the second chukka.
But things would change from the third chukka onwards, when La Dolfina bounced back – two goals by Milly Hine, one from the field and one 30-yards penalty conversion and one by Mia Cambiaso, gave La Dolfina a 4-2 advantage by half time.
The pink jerseys continued with their dominance thoroghout the fifth chukka, when they widened their lead to 5-2, following a single goal, a 30-yards penalty conversion, courtesy of Milly Hine. La Dolfina had outscored UAE 4-0 in two chukkas, until Hazel Jackson scored with four minutes in the fifth chukka. However, La Dolfina were getting more strong and confident – Hope Arellano scored twice to mark a 7-3 lead, until it was Hazel again who produced another goal. With only one chukka to go, La Dolfina were 7-4 ahead.
But La Dolfina had everything already well under control. It was Mia Cambiaso who pushed the ball into the goalposts twice, and at the end of the day, secured a very well deserved 9-4 win for La Dolfina, the first in two years… and, very important, indeed, the first ever Women’s Argentine Open the talented Cata Lavinia.
