The polo community was shaken on Thursday January 29, with the terrible news of Nicholas Colqohourn-Denvers’ passing. One of the most remarkable and respected personalities within the sport, not only in England but also worldwide, Nicholas has been renowned by his work as the Chairman of the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA), Chairman of the Federation of International Polo (FIP), and Chairman of Ham Polo Club, London’s oldest club, established in 1927.
Born in 1949 and educated in St. Christ Church, West Australia, Nicholas started his polo career in the late 60s, while serving in the Australian Polo Service Board, in Canberra. When he left Australia, he went to England, to jopin the British Army as a member of the Artillery Regiment, where he spent six years until his retirement. His next move was Saudi Arabia to be hired by the Arab Triad Corporation, taking charge of Adnan Khasogghi’s private business in London in addition to Honorable Secretary of the Victoria College Association.
With regards to his brilliant work in polo, Nicholas was Chairman of Ham Polo Club, between 1995-1998; Chairman of the Hurlingham Polo Association, the governing body for polo in England, Ireland and Commonwealth Countries (2009-2012); and Chairman of the Federation of International Polo (2014-2018), a position he took on the recommendation of Argentina.
Nicholas dedicated his life to polo through his extraordinary leadership, his vision, enthusiasm, encouragement, integrity in order to the growth and development of the sport all over the world.
He was married to his beloved Annie during 35 years; unfortunately, Annie passed away in December 2021, a blow that left a huge mark on Nicholas’ life.
