Benjamin Araya has been elected as the new President of the Argentine Association of Polo (AAP), following the meeting of the Board of Directors, held on Wednesday May 28. Araya, who was competing for the post with Marcos Di Paola, will hold the position until May 2027, and would eventually be able to be elected for a second term until 2029.

Born in Coronel Suarez, and a member of one of the most prominent polo families, former player Benjamin Araya won the Argentine Open three times – 1980, 1981 and 1983 – always wearing the remarkable Coronel Suarez jersey. His Board of Directors will be composed as follows:

  • Deputy Trustee: Juan Lastra
  • Alternate Officer for Active Clubs: Federico G. Virasoro
  • Officer for Active Clubs: Javier A. Pasman
  • * Main Officer for Active Clubs: Franco Gai Jr.
  • Main Officer for Incorporated Clubs: Santiago J. Olivera
  • Alternate Officer for Active Clubs: John Peter Duncan Dub
  • Alternate Officer for Active Clubs: Ernesto T. Lalor
  • Alternate Officer for Incorporated Clubs: Lucía Giraudo
  • * Main Officer for Incorporated Clubs: José Ortiz Masllorens Jr..

* On both cases, their will serve a one year term, as a replacement for Nicolás Ojea Quintana and Verónica Guerrero, who handed in their notices.

It’s worth to remember that, some days ago, Marcos di Paola announced that in the event Benjamin Araya would emerge as the winner, they would decide to retire the remaining positions, to allow the elected President to fullfil his term with the people he had chosen.

Con esta nueva dirigencia, la AAP inicia una nueva etapa con el objetivo de seguir fortaleciendo el polo argentino y su desarrollo a nivel nacional e internacional.
